Here in N. Texas it’s hot. Like 106 degrees hot. My beautiful potted plants and flowers have taken a beating, unfortunately. I’ve had to get creative so that they’ll last through this inferno we call summer.
Here are a couple of tips to keep your patio and yard blooming all summer long.
- Retreat! Retreat!
My front porch faces the western sun, and despite twice a day watering my potted flowers were burning to a crisp. I decided to move them to our back yard where I have more variations of sun exposure. Even plants and flowers that say “Full Sun” sometimes need a break through the hottest part of the year.
- Do the Shuffle!
My plants and flowers move around my yard every few days. There are areas that get morning sun, complete shade, and full afternoon sun. Don’t be afraid to give your plant a break for a few days from the all day sun. Move it to a shady or shadier spot, and then rotate it out when it’s looking like it needs more light again.
Evening is my favorite time to walk among my flowers; checking on them, adjusting their location as needed. Kitties happen to love spending the evening with my flowers, too.
