We strive to source only the best suction cups for our feeders, but making sure you correctly and securely install your window hummingbird feeders is still important! Here are the steps we recommend for the best “stick:”
Step 1: Clean your window first.
Even if your window is just a bit dusty, it’s still important to clean it with a mild cleaning solution and a lint-free rag. Please use a natural, non-toxic cleaner, for the hummers’ sake! Dust or lint particles can compromise the seal of a suction cup, which is why we want them gone (also, you want the window sparkling clean so you can take good pictures)!
Step 2: Clean the inside of the suction cups.
This step is important for the same reason as the first step. Your goal is to remove any particles that might compromise a good seal. You can use a wet rag or paper towel. Before you dry them, make sure to read the next step!
Step 3: Leave water droplets on inside of the suction cups.
Yep, that’s right! While you’ll want to polish off your window to avoid any streaks, its actually good to leave some water drops on the inside of the suction cup. The water helps to strengthen the seal created when the suction cup is pressed to the window.
Step 4: Gently and firmly press the center of each cup against the window.
“Gently” is important because you’re pushing on glass, after all! Please be mindful and don’t push too sharply or hard against fragile surfaces.
“Firmly” is key because you want to make sure the suction cup actually seals to the window! We use high-quality, sturdy suction cups for our feeders, so you do have to put a little pressure on the center of each one in order for it to seal. When the center of the cup almost touches the window, you have succeeded!
That’s all it takes to securely install your window hummingbird feeders! Seems simple, but each step is important for the best possible experience with your feeder.
One last tip: to remove your feeder, simply pull on the tiny tab at the edge of the suction cup, and the seal will release!
