Have you ever paid good money for a product, only to have it not work for the one thing it was advertised to do? I’ve been there – that is so frustrating. Well, we definitely don’t want you to feel that way about your Sweet Feeder, so I want to share two tips that will come in handy if you think your Sweet Feeder isn’t working as advertised.
Hummingbirds go to my other feeders, but not my Sweet Feeder.
Hummers are creatures of habit. If they are accustomed to the feeders you already had out in your yard before you put your Sweet Feeder up, they won’t change they’re feeding habits.
Solution: Take away your original feeders for a few days, to let your hummers become accustomed to the new Sweet Feeder. After they are feeding from the Sweet Feeder, you can bring your others back!
My Sweet Feeder bottles are dripping!
First of all, Sweet Feeders will drip a little if they are being blown around a lot on a windy day. Unfortunately, most any type of hummingbird feeder will have the same kind of trouble. However, our window feeders shouldn’t have as much trouble in the wind, so if you live in an area that is typically very windy, you may want to look into a window feeder!
Another common cause, however, is related to heat. If your feeder is in direct sunlight on hot afternoons, the sugar water inside begins to evaporate, and thickens. This breaks the surface tension that typically keeps the feeder from dripping, so that the thicker sugar water seeps out a little.
Solution: Hang your Sweet Feeder in the shade, to slow down evaporation! Also, make sure that you’re using the 4 parts water to 1 part sugar ratio for your nectar, so that the sugar water isn’t too thick to start with!
As always – we’d love to help out if you have any questions about your feeder! Just zip us an email at contactsweetfeeders@gmail.com. Sweet Feeders work so well for us when used as intended, and we want you to enjoy them just as much as we do!
Have a wonderful week!
